EXP-100-C: Tailored commercial drysuit

The EXP-100-C commercial drysuit is an upgraded version of the Neptune tailored sport drysuit.

The EXP-100-C commercial drysuit is made from the best available neoprene foam sheet, with four-way stretch nylon on both sides. The back-shoulder entry zipper used in the EXP-100-C is a heavy duty (size 6) gas- and water-tight zipper made only by BDM in England. As an Option, KME will add a comfort/relief standard (size 8) waterproof zipper placed horizontally just above the crotch.

The standard boot on the EXP-100-C is the K-Boot, designed for swim fins. An optional upgrade for the walking diver is the Lug Boot. The K-Boot is a molded rubber outer boot shell bonded over a waterproof neoprene foam "sock". The Lug Boot is a heavy duty molded boot shell with "tractor" treads on the bottom, bonded over a waterproof neoprene foam sock. IDI Turtle™ fins (and possibly some of the newer fins) will fit over lug boot sizes up to #11.

The air control valves are Trident D (commercial grade) dry suit valves. The Trident exhaust valve is manually operated and will not let water into the suit when the operating button is depressed. The exhaust valve is designed to dump more air than the inflation valve can let into the dry suit as a safety factor. Trident drysuit valves have a one year warranty. Replacement parts are also available for service and repair. The diver has the choice of valve placement in the EXP-100-C. As an Option, KME offers the SI Tech™ "automatic" low profile adjustable self-venting exhaust valve at no extra charge.

Four different specialty adhesives are used in the EXP-100-C. All are the best available for each use. No wetsuit grade glues are used. All nylon thread used meets Federal Specification VT-295.

Knee pads on the EXP-100-C are vinyl coated for chaffing resistance. On 1/8" suits, the knee pads are tape bonded to prevent the sewing from going too deep into the foam neoprene below the fabric, possibly causing leaks. On 1/4" thick suits, the knee pads are double sewn on, so as to facilitate replacement. Ballistic nylon-covered knee pads are an option.

Other suit Options include: attached hood, air hat attachment collars, zipper cover flaps, suspenders inside suit, shoulder pads, elbow pads, crotch reinforcement for jocking systems and chemical-proof protection over seams.

Each EXP-100-C is tailored from KME's exclusive measuring system measurements. The tailoring is done on pattern paper, using the diver's measurements and KME's seam reduction engineered patterns as the starting point. The diver's pattern is then cut out and traced onto the suit material. This pattern is filed (we go back 10 years) in case the diver needs a new dry suit in the future. The suit parts are cut out using a special "rotary shear" which leaves a very clean and uniform cut that insures gluing with no seam leaks. All zippers are treated then laminated (sandwiched) between two neoprene panels, using a special adhesive. The dry suit and boots are assembled with a special adhesive designed especially for neoprene dry suit seams. After the adhesive has dried then polymerized, (18 to 24 hours) the outside seams are finished by either "blind stitch" sewing or application of nylon heat bonded tape. The suit is then turned inside out and the inside seams are sealed with KME's exclusive "TCV" liquid rubber seam sealing process. Next the Trident commercial dry suit valves are installed. The EXP-100-C is then inspected, cleaned and prepared for delivery.


EXP-600-C: Deluxe tailored commercial drysuit with super heavy weave exterior nylon

The EXP-600-C commercial dry suit is made with special super heavy weave nylon (Picot weave) laminated on the outside of the best available neoprene foam sheet, with standard four-way stretch nylon on the inside. The EXP-600-C is available only in black at this time.

The back of shoulder entry zipper used in the EXP-600-C is a heavy duty (size 6) gas- and water-tight zipper made only by BDM™ in England. As an option, KME will add a comfort/relief standard (size 8) waterproof zipper placed horizontally just above the crotch.

KME HEAVY GEAR SUITS

KME-4000: Commercial drysuit, heavy gear sizing, for use with air hats and full face masks

                                                          This drysuit was the first KME drysuit.

The KME-4000 Drysuit was designed for heavy gear type commercial diving, using an air hat or full face mask.  . 

The sizing was taken directly off of the now extinct, standard "Yokohama" Diving Dress.

This picture shows the KME-4000 with an Optional DESCO "Pot" Yoke (collar for direct attachment to the drysuit).  We can install attachment Yokes for every air hat. The valve positioning is optional, but the vertical arrangement has been found to be most convenient because the valves can be reached by either hand and they can be operated by using the back of the diver's knuckles while holding something in that hand.

Neoprene thickness is standard at 1/4 " (6.5 - 7 mm), but 1/8" (3 mm) is available by special order.

 

KME-6000: Commercial drysuit, heavy gear sizing, with super heavy weave exterior nylon

The KME-6000 is the newest commercial dry suit in our line. It is identical to the KME-4000 with the following exception: the nylon outer fabric on the KME 6000 is the same super heavy weave nylon fabric that formerly was used on "crushed" neoprene suits. Available in black only, the KME-6000 can be customized with KME options and accessories.  Thickness of the neoprene is 1/8" (3 mm)..

KME-6600: Commercial hard hat heavy dress series

    The KME-6600 is made of the best drysuit grade neoprene with super heavy nylon (pique weave) on the outside for wear resistance and to control the "ballooning" that can happen with neoprene foam diving suits.

Standard thickness is 1/8" (3 mm) which adds some insulation but stays very flexible.

Vulcanized rubber breast plate gaskets are available as either commercial 12 bolt, "Yokohama" lightweight or MK-V types. The MK-V breast plate gasket is pre-punched to Navy specs (also available un-punched by special order).   (SEE MK-V Link below for MK-V dress and other MK-V items)

There are three options for wrist seals: custom-sized neoprene, vulcanized rubber (MK-V) or "commercial" long taper latex ("Machete" style).

The feet have light rubber soles to protect the suit and diver when out of the water or when the chaffing boots are full of sand or debris. The leg fronts are re-enforced for added protection.

The crotch, elbows and all seams are also covered with urethane-backed close weave nylon for the best chaffing protection available.

Available in black or white, the KME-6600 can be customized with KME options and accessories.  The black is the strongest nylon "Pique" and the white is "Double Grade Polyester".   We can special order the Safety Orange, but there is a minimum order for the material that must be met.

Hot Water Suit: New concept in hot water suits

 

KME hot water suit

A new concept in HOT WATER SUITS manufactured in the USA by KME. 

Sizing is based on the U S Navy  MK-12 System Coveralls as in the chart below.

The material used in the KME Hot Water Suits is 1000 den. "Cordura" Nylon with a heavy urethane

coating on the inside to stop the flow of water through the fabric.  The knee pads are heavy

"Ballistic" Nylon.  The arm and leg opening adjustment cinch fasteners are special double sided

hook and loop (hook on one side and loop on the other) to eliminate plastic rings or buckles.

There are two water manifold systems available.  KME makes our own version of the swivel QD

hose connecter and adjustable "dump" valve. 

Some customers have requested a "straight through" non swivel QD manifold with no dump valve. 

These are available at a reduced price from the "dump" style valve.

Standard colors are black and international (safety) orange.  Special order colors are also available.

The black boots shown above are special neoprene lined "Lug" (molded rubber) sole boots that are also

available built onto any model of the KME line of Drysuits.  On some models they are standard and they

are available on all other drysuits as an Option.   We also make a heavy sock type boot to be worn with

chaffing boots. (The  Blue boot on one foot of the person wearing the orange hot water suit).

KME-MK-V: Authentic replica of US NAVY MK-V dress, made with modern materials for long life and comfort

The last MK-V diving dresses were manufactured by DESCO in 1964 as far as our research has found. The waterproof barrier between two layers of cotton twill (not canvas) was a layer of live natural gum rubber which was not vulcanized. After these many years, that gum rubber layer has "dry rotted" into a white powder in most of the remaining MK-V dresses, although there are, surprisingly, a few of the old original dresses that KME has been asked to restore that can be repaired well enough to dive again.

The movie "Men of Honor" rented five original dresses and KME was tasked to recondition them. After replacing all the vulcanized rubber breast plate gaskets and wrist seals, we were able to patch two dresses to the point that they were dry enough to dive. Oddly, one of the worst leaking dresses was one that came to KME sealed in its original military shipping box, inside wrapped in heavy brown waxed paper with powder covering the inside of the waxed paper.

SPECIFICATIONS:

KME manufactures commercial working dresses for all types of Hard Hat or "DEEP SEA" helmets, using modern materials. Due to many requests by the US Navy, US Army Divers, tourist attractions and hobby divers, KME, working with our material suppliers, has developed a replica MK-V Dress that is designed for diving.  We also build a "JAKE" version (not dive able) that is the same externally for a lessor price

This MK-V Dress is built to the same strict overall specifications as the KME-6600 commercial hard hat dress.

The dress body material is 1/8" (3 mm) thick drysuit grade neoprene foam sheet with fabric on both sides. KME special orders this material with white Polyester fabric outside and nylon super heavy weave fabric inside. The outside white finish is as near to the look of the old cotton dresses, as it is possible to get with modern long lasting materials. The super heavy weave nylon inside eliminates the stretch, normally associate with neoprene suits, to a minimum, yet allows much more flexibility than the old cotton material.

The knee pads, elbow pads and the leg lace attachments are made of polyester double knit to insure long life. They are sized and placed on the dress to original U.S. Navy specifications.

The breast plate gasket in the KME MK-V Dress is vulcanized black natural rubber, molded as specified for the original dresses.

Wrist seals can be ordered in three types: original Molded Rubber (authentic, from DESCO), Latex (looks close to authentic, but very fragile and relatively short lived) and Neoprene (most comfortable, can be sized to fit, seals well and has long life).

The sizing used by KME is the same as the world famous (but no longer manufactured) "Yokohama" commercial dress, which is slightly larger in the body than the Navy specified patterns. The sizes are not enough larger to change your MK-V Dress size when ordering. MK-V Dresses are available, on order, in sizes 1 through 5 and customizing is available at a modest extra cost.

The only thing that KME changes on the MK-V Dress is the feet. The old stiff, heavy reinforced feet are replaced with a foot that still looks authentic except for a sole on the bottom of the foot to protect it from abrasion. The standard size is men's # 13, but smaller sizes can be special ordered at no extra cost.

KME-MK-V Chaffing Pants: Original style MK-V chaffing pants

KME manufactures two styles of MK-V Chaffing Pants, both the elaborate "original" style (see in older Navy Diving Manuals) or the newer "plane" or "shot gun" style.  We make these chaffing pants from white 1000 denier Cordura, or, by special order, from the original type Cotton Duck (canvas).  We also make commercial chaffing

pants in two styles, "Navy" and "West Coast Style" in black or orange 1000 denier Cordura nylon.

KME-MK-12-A Coveralls: MK-12 System Coveralls, Navy, Army and commercial models

KME manufactures the second generation MK-12 System Diving Coveralls for the US Navy and allied navies that have inherited the system from the U.S. Navy.  We make the MK-12 Drysuit's that go with this system as well.

We also make a modified version of the MK-12 Coverall for the U.S. Army divers and a "stripped" version (no weight pockets on legs) that is used as Chaffing gear by the U.S. Navy, as well as commercial divers.


DEW-100: Deck exposure Work Suit

KME manufactures a specialized Dry Suit called the DEW-100 (Deck Exposure Work suit), that may be used as an every day working exposure suit or, if necessary, as a survival dry suit. Please note: The DEW Dry Suit IS NOT rated by the U. S, Coast Guard as a "Survival Suit" for several technical reasons, including the fact that the DEW comes in fitted sizes (not "one size must fit all" of the rated survival suit). It is designed to function as such in case the wearer accidentally goes into the water. This dry suit is ideal for use while working on deck when wind blown rain or seas are coming aboard, or when there is a chance of the wearer being swept or falling over the side into cold water. This suit model was tested at the US Coast Guard Surf Training School in Ilwaco, Washington, on the bar of the Columbia River, the roughest year around surf zone in the USA.

 

Fire Departments with small lakes and ponds in their jurisdictions that freeze in the winter are using the Ice Rescue version of the DEW suits for their non-diving rescue teams.

The DEW-600 model has the same KME Super Heavy Weave nylon outside fabric as our Commercial Drysuits in the 600 series.

Another specialized use for DEW suits is for professional clam diggers in the Puget Sound clam beds in the winter (they use fishing waders in the summer, but these do not provide enough protection in winter).

The DEW-100 & DEW-600 Dry Suits are tailored suit models. These dry suits should be sized to fit the wearer with work clothes on under the suit, allowing them to move about and work in relative comfort. KME will provide measuring instructions on request.

KME manufactures a lighter, stock sized Surface Dry Suit called the DEW-500 (Deck Exposure Work suit), that may be used as an every day exposure suit or, if necessary, as a survival dry suit.
